More than 200 youths gathered at the Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare Stadium in Wewak for the first-ever Momase Regional Youth Crusade organised by the South Sea Evangelical Church [SSEC].

The one-week crusade began on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, under the theme “Laying a Better Foundation,” drawn from the Bible text Hebrews 10.

Youth groups from SSEC churches in Yangoru, Kubalia, the West Coast, Wewak District, Wewak Local, Turubu, Maprik and Drekikir attended the regional gathering.

Guest speaker Pastor Simon Minigamba, Dean of the Christian Leaders’ Training College [CLTC] Lae Campus, explained that the “better foundation” referred to in the theme is Jesus Christ alone.

Jesus Christ is the true foundation on which we must build our lives,Pastor Minigamba said.

Pastor Minigamba officially opened the crusade with the first evening session on Wednesday.

The Momase Regional Youth Crusade is part of SSEC’s wider ministry, which operates across all regions of Papua New Guinea.

During Friday’s fourth morning session, Pastor Minigamba challenged youths to step out of their comfort zones and pursue God’s calling boldly.

Quoting a well-known saying, he reminded them that “comfort zones are where dreams go to die.”

He encouraged the youths to take steps of faith even when the future seems uncertain, stressing that obedience requires faith and that faith overcomes fear.

“God’s promises are outside your comfort zone,” he said.

The will of God will never take you where the grace of God cannot sustain you, Pastor Minigamba added that while God’s plans may disrupt personal plans, they ultimately lead to greater blessings and purpose.

He concluded by asking the gathering a reflective question:
“What is God calling you to leave behind?”

He also told the youths that many are searching for purpose, dreams and vision, and that these can only truly be found in Jesus Christ, whom he described as “the way, the truth and the life.”

Praise and worship throughout the crusade were led by SSEC musicians.

The Momase Regional Youth Crusade is the first of its kind, with organisers expected to decide on future regional crusades at the conclusion of the program on Sunday.
