Bullet hits PNG Power HQ after night disturbance in Port Moresby
PNG Power Limited has confirmed that a bullet struck the glass front of its headquarters building in Port Moresby on Tuesday night, 6 January 2026.
The incident happened at around 10:00pm, after office hours. PNG Power says no staff were inside the building at the time and no one was injured.
Police were quickly informed and later visited the scene. An investigation is now underway to find out exactly what happened.
PNG Power’s internal security team believes the gunshot may have come from a disturbance that happened across the road from the head office. Reports suggest an unmarked vehicle, believed to be a police patrol, fired three rounds to break up the commotion. One of the bullets is suspected to have accidentally hit the PNG Power building.
The company says it is fully cooperating with police and will support the investigation. PNG Power also says it is reviewing and strengthening security at all its sites to keep staff and property safe.
PNG Power Chief Finance Officer Peter Mell has assured staff to remain calm and allow police to complete their work. He says the company remains committed to transparency and will provide updates when more information becomes available.
