Prime Minister James Marape says the Government has stepped up preparations for the 2027 National Elections, placing strong emphasis on credibility, security and respect for the will of the people.

Marape confirmed that alongside ongoing reforms and development work, strengthening election preparedness has become a key national priority.

“The Government is preparing responsibly for the 2027 National Election,” he said.

He said the State is working closely with the Electoral Commission, security agencies and other key institutions to support voter enrolment, election logistics, polling and counting processes, and the safety of voters, candidates and election officials nationwide.

“Our responsibility is not to influence the outcome, but to ensure a peaceful, credible and orderly election where the will of the people is freely expressed and respected,” Marape said.

The Prime Minister also urged Papua New Guineans to play their part in nation-building, saying the government alone cannot carry the burden of development and unity.

“If you are unsure what you can contribute, begin by respecting the law, respecting one another and living by the values that bind us together,” he said.

PM Marape further called on citizens to resolve disputes peacefully, avoid violence and reconnect within their communities, encouraging church involvement and dialogue as foundations for unity and mutual respect.

“We will refocus and reset with discipline, unity and shared responsibility. Together, we can build a stronger Papua New Guinea; one that honours the sacrifices of the past 50 years and creates opportunities for the next 50,” he said.
