Prime suspect arrested in Unitech students murder case
As part of the ongoing Christmas/New Year Police Operations in the Western Highlands, Police have apprehended the prime suspect in the alleged murder case involving two PNG University of Technology female students and a secondary school boy.
The suspect was arrested following a police tip-off and is currently being held at the Mt Hagen Police Station, where he has been charged with arson and wilful murder.
His arrests bring the total number of suspects arrested in connection with the case to nine where the first eight suspects were charged for attempt to pervert cause of justice, wilful murder, attempted murder, and inciting the problem accordingly.
PPC Sagom said information provided by key witnesses indicates that the suspect is the main individual who poured petrol and set the house on fire, leading to the deaths of the three victims.
In another successful operation on Christmas eve, police recovered a stolen motor vehicle belonging to Kuri Lodge.
The two suspects were arrested and charged for armed robbery and are now in police custody.
Meanwhile, police also arrested and charged an individual for impersonation after he was caught wearing the Special Services Division [SSD] camouflage uniform, an offense under the Police Act.
PPC Sagom thanked the public for their continued cooperation and support, which he says has contributed significantly to the success of the festive season Operations in the province.
