West Sepik imposes festive liquor ban
A total liquor ban has been imposed in West Sepik Province until January 2 as part of police measures to ensure a peaceful Christmas and New Year festive season.
West Sepik Provincial Police Commander, Senior Inspector Silas Kuainou, said the ban is part of the festive police operation code-named “Celebrate in Peace and Unity.” He also announced a 10 pm curfew and strict enforcement against firecrackers, drugs, traffic offences, and noise pollution, warning that offenders will be arrested and detained.
Senior Inspector Kuainou said police have been deployed to Aitape–Lumi, Nuku, Telefomin and Vanimo, supported by a pilot youth volunteer program to strengthen community policing due to manpower shortages.
He also highlighted the success of police operations throughout the year, including the Aitape–Lumi By-Election, LLG elections, the province’s 50th Anniversary celebrations and other major events.
He urged the public to celebrate responsibly and respect the law, wishing the people of West Sepik Province a Merry Christmas and a safe, peaceful and memorable New Year.
