MPG assists Madang PHA
The Madang Provincial Government recently presented medical drugs worth K53,000 to the Madang Provincial Health Authority.
Governor Ramsey Pariwa delivered five boxes of basic medicine to MaPHA's Chief Executive Officer, Dr Martin Daimen, at the provincial hospital premises, witnessed by MaPHA's Board Chairman, Dr Boga Figa, and hospital staff during the recent commissioning of two new Southern Cross tanks for the provincial hospital.
Pariwa elaborated that his government's decision to assist MaPHA stemmed from the ongoing shortage of medical drugs in the province.
"These basic drugs were sourced from a Lae- based pharmacy. The other batch of drugs, worth about K71, 000 were ordered from Port Moresby," he said. "Whenever there is a shortage of medicine, please let me know. Do not go to Waigani because Waigani is full of swamps."
Governor Pariwa further stated that systems at Waigani have been compromised and do not seem to work.
He added; "The government has spent the last 50 years trying to fix the systems. If these systems can't work, Madang is not going to sit around and waste time. We are going to have to do some shortcuts to make sure people get the services they deserve. My people of Madang deserve better."
Pariwa said his Provincial Executive Council has made a decision for Madang to have its own supplier of medical drugs, to be based in the province.
"We are currently looking for a piece of land to build this facility. So when we have a shortage of medicine in the province, we can procure our own, and supply the provincial hospital as well as the health centres and aid posts throughout the province," he said.
The Madang Provincial Government, meanwhile; also has plans to purchase some new medical equipment for the provincial hospital.
