Sia brings peace to Lufa
Eastern Highlands Governor, Simon Sia, has stepped-in to ease tension and pave a way forward for peace and reconciliation among two neighboring villages, that caused violence in during the LLG elections.
Sia delivered much-needed food rations, cooking utensils, beddings and building materials to assist Korowa and Rapiva villages with the restoration of families displaced by the tribal fight.
The incident saw more than 300 houses bent down and three people dead whilst families fled in fear of their lives.
Building materials, such as roofing iron, nails and other necessities, where presented to the victims to start rebuilding their shelters.
Governor Sia also presented a brand-new sawmill as part of the villages restoration process.
He urged urged the two warring villages to uphold the Christian principle of 'forgive and forget' and to celebrate this festive season peacefully.
"I urge everyone in the community, parents, leaders and the young people to deal with situation in a peaceful way so that our problem is solved without any more trouble," he said.
Police officers from the Goroka Mobile Squad 14 were stationed on ground for the past few weeks to maintain order while peace negotiations were ongoing.
The people of Korowa and Rapiva have collectively agreed for peace and normalcy, laying down their weapons in front of the EHP governor.
This will pave the way forward for a peace agreement among the two warring villages.
