K14 million rural electrification program launched in Mendi

A soft launch of a major Rural Electrification that will cover the rural populace in both Nipa Kutubu and Mendi Munihu Districts in the Southern Highlands Province was launched during the week.

In a small but significant event at the Map Village in Karinz LLG outside Mendi Town the commissioning and announcement of the successful completion of the project was held.

The project comes at a cost of K14 million under the leadership of former Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited Managing Director Wapu Sonk. The project covers 47.7 kilometres from Karinz LLG to Lai Valley LLG and into Nipa through the Sumbi Ekenda ring road.

Olympus Projects successfully delivered the historical project that is set to spark a major transformation in the lives of the locals marking a major step for development in the Province and the Nation.

The event was witnessed by the representatives of the Provincial Government, PNG Power, other stakeholders and the locals.

The Deputy Provincial Administrator under infrastructure Jerry James who represented the provincial government highlighted the importance of the project and also commended the efforts of Olympus Projects.

The Executive Chairman of the board of management Olympus Projects, Jessy Mano also acknowledged the vision of the former Managing Director of the company late Erick Alom which translated into this reality.

Mano also acknowledged Marape Rosso Government, Minister for State Owned Enterprises William Duma, Governor William Powi, SOE Vice Minister and local MP Raphael, Tonpi, the current board and management of KPHL, PNG Power, Scoffs Power and Energy Technologies have all been acknowledged for this to ensure the project is successfully completed and delivered.
