National flag carrier, Air Niugini has clarified that tickets for Christmas travel on major domestic routes are still available, despite reports in The National suggesting otherwise.

The airline said some flights are fully booked, but seats remain on selected flights from Port Moresby to Lae, Mt Hagen, Goroka, Rabaul, Kimbe, and Wewak. Travelers are encouraged to book early, as remaining seats are limited.

Captain Samiu Taufa, Air Niugini’s Officer In Charge, said closing ticket sales on full flights is standard practice and does not mean entire routes are sold out. Passengers can check availability online, at sales offices, or via travel agents.

“As with all airlines, once a particular flight reaches full capacity, ticket sales for that flight are closed. This is standard practice and ensures safe and efficient operations,” Captain Taufa said. “However, this does not mean that tickets are unavailable across entire routes or destinations.”

The airline also acknowledged the high demand and operational pressures during the festive season but reassured the public that safety and service remain top priorities.

“Our teams across flight operations, engineering, ground handling and customer service continue to work diligently to maximise available capacity and safely transport as many passengers as possible during this busy season,” Captain Taufa said.
