The Late Dei Open MP, Steven Pim’s son, Jeremiah Pim, has entered the Dei Open By-Election race, filing his nomination on Wednesday, 10th December, 2025, at the PNG Electoral Commission office in Mt Hagen.

Running under the banner of the People’s First Party, led by Richard Maru, the young candidate said he is contesting in honour of his father’s legacy and is determined to continue the work that was left behind.

Pim highlighted several key projects initiated by his late father, including: Solar power projects across communities, Mala Minjim Road, which borders Western Highlands, Jiwaka and parts of Madang, police housing at Muglamp, Coffee revitalisation program for Dei, which is one of the densely coffee-producing districts in the country

He said many of these projects were not fully rolled out due to his father’s passing, and he now wants to ensure they are completed for the benefit of the people.

Pim is the youngest candidate in the by-election and a newcomer to politics, but said he is not intimidated by older and more experienced contenders.

"I have my own strength and experience through the political exposure I gained from my father. I am ready for this challenge,” he said.

He was accompanied by his mother Jennifer Pim, during the nomination, which was accepted by Returning Officer Philip Telape.

Jeremiah Pim is now amongst 25 candidates who have been nominated so far for the Dei Open By-Election.
