Lae policing further strengthened with 18 new vehicles
The Lae City Authority [LCA] under the Chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister and Lae MP, John Rosso, has yet again supported police operations in Lae with 18 new vehicles.
Rosso handed over keys of the new police vehicles costing K250, 000 each, to the Assistant Commissioner of Police for Northern Command, Peter Guinness on behalf of the Lae Police, and clarified that four vehicles have already been delivered earlier, and the remaining 14 were delivered and commissioned yesterday.
“The 14 police cars will go towards various sectors of the Lae Police Force where mobile assistance is most needed, to support the Police Station, the Sector Response Unit, the Northern Mobile Group, the Traffic Unit and most importantly, our Family and Sexual Violence Unit (FSVU),” he said.
The Lae MP also noted that LCA's assistance towards the police since 2018, has seen the purchase of close to 50 cars now including these additional 18 vehicles.
"In total now, Lae City Authority has purchased approximately 50 police cars since 2018 for the Lae Police Force, taking away hire cars and ensuring that the police force is provided with the necessary infrastructure and support, so that it complements the great work they do."
“Lae Police continue to lead from the front, and the new vehicles will not only aid the Police officers to do their job effectively, but it will also get rid of the costly hire cars once," Rosso said.
The launching of the new vehicles coincides with the launching of the new police Emergency number '112', that'll enable more calls from the public coming through, whilst the new vehicles will be on standby to compliment and assist the police officers to attend to the calls of distress as soon as possible.
