Tuberculosis [TB] patients at Madang Hospital will now have new facilities to receive treatment.

The Mineral Resources Development Corporation [MRDC] signed a Memorandum of Agreement [MOA] with the Madang Provincial Government and the Provincial Health Authority and committed immediate assistance of K300,000 towards the construction of a critical two-in-one TB facility at the hospital.

Following a request made last year by Governor Ramsey Pariwa, they finally joined the Chief Executive Officer of Madang PHA, Dr Martin Daimen, to meet with the Managing Director of MRDC, Augustine Mano, on Wednesday and finalize the partnership formalities.

The meeting concluded with the formal execution of an MOA establishing a key partnership and an announcement of immediate financial assistance of the K300,000 for the construction of a new TB Ward.

In appreciating the signing, Governor Pariwa extended his deepest appreciation to MRDC for their excellent corporate performance and paid special accolades to the MRDC Managing Director for his positive leadership.

"This commitment to funding our hospital is an act of genuine community partnership that will go a long way in saving human lives.

"The Health Sector is not merely a basic service; it is an essential service that involves the precious commodity of human life," Pariwa said.

The governor emphasized that the provincial government remains dedicated to supporting the Modilon Provincial Hospital in delivering high-quality, life-saving care to all citizens of Madang.

MRDC Managing Director, Augustine Mano, indicated his pleasure in supporting the hospital, noting that MRDC, as the trustee for Mineral Resource Madang and Mineral Resource Ramu, views this partnership as a crucial way of giving back and providing timely assistance where the need is most urgent.

"This gesture is a first-of-its-kind collaboration between the Madang Provincial Health Authority and MRDC," Mano said.

Meanwhile, CEO of Madang PHA, Dr. Martin Daimen, expressed profound gratitude for the timely, financial injection, noting that such gestures and continued funding -not just from MRDC, but from all like-minded development partners—are essential for sustaining the province’s health services.

"TB remains a serious public health challenge in our province, and this dedicated facility will drastically enhance its capacity to isolate, treat, and save lives," Dr Daimen said.
