PNG Correctional Service hosts senior managers’ conference in Lae
The Papua New Guinea Correctional Service [PNGCS] is currently having a 2025 Senior Managers conference in Lae.
The conference started on Monday December 1st and will end on Friday the 5th.
The conference aims to strengthen the PNGCS’s strategic direction and institutional capacity, through evidence-based planning and partnerships.
Based on the theme 'PNGCS RESET AT 50 and 5 years Road Map, 2025 -2030’', the program seeks to ensure all reforms and operations align with the national priorities and the Law and Justice Sector’s long-term vision by 2030.
PNGCS Commanders from all across the country are in attendance, as well as the PNG-Australian Law and Justice Partnership team and other stakeholders.
According to the PNGCS Acting Deputy Commissioner of Cooperate Affairs, Micheal Mosiri, said the Correctional Service play an important part of the Law and Justice process.
"We are at the receiving end of the process, and we have to do our part as far as the criminal justice system is concerned."
“Hopefully by the end of this conference, we will come up with our strategic plan which will be linked with other central agencies like National Planning, Finance, and Department of Personal Management to deliver what we aspired to do," he expressed.
The inaugural opening Monday featured presentations on the SMART Prison concept, by key players within the correctional service department.
Presentations of different concepts will be done for the remaining days ending on Friday.
