Dangerous escapee captured in Angoram after dawn police raid
Police in East Sepik Province have apprehended a dangerous escapee, bringing an end to a tense manhunt that has gripped the Angoram district.
The suspect, identified as Shanon Rumgen from Dumiri Village in Yuat LLG, had been on the run after escaping from Boram Correctional Facility. He was wanted for a string of serious crimes, including murder and grievous bodily harm.
East Sepik Provincial Police Commander Superintendent Christopher Tamari confirmed that while evading authorities, Rumgen committed another murder in Angoram, further escalating fear among local communities.
According to Superintendent Tamari, police mounted a coordinated dawn raid yesterday that led to Rumgen’s capture. At the time of his arrest, he was armed with a pistol and a wire catapult. He sustained injuries while attempting to resist and evade police officers.
Superintendent Tamari praised the swift action of his officers, noting that the arrest has restored a measure of safety and confidence among residents of Angoram and surrounding areas.
Authorities say Rumgen will face additional charges for crimes committed during his escape.
Investigations will continue.
