Police report peaceful and orderly LLG polling in Western Highlands
The Local Level Government [LLG] elections in Western Highlands Province are progressing smoothly into their sixth day today.
Polling in other districts; Dei, Mul-Baiyer, and Tambul-Nebilyer, was conducted last week without major incidents and has been described as largely successful.
In Hagen Central, which comprises the Hagen Urban and Hagen Rural LLGs, polling that was scheduled for last Friday was postponed due to heavy rain. Voting was moved to today, Monday, 3rd November 2025.
Police providing security across polling locations in Hagen Central have reported a calm and orderly process. Completed ballot boxes have been transported to the Kimininga Regional Police Barracks for safekeeping and counting.
As of this afternoon, Hagen Urban with eight council wards has completed polling in three wards, with the remaining five to be conducted tomorrow. Hagen Rural, which has 40 wards, has completed polling in 33, with seven still to go.
Additionally, three wards from the Nebilyer constituency in the Tambul-Nebilyer District will join 12 wards from Hagen Central to conduct polling tomorrow.
Western Highlands Provincial Police Commander, Chief Superintendent John Sagom, who is leading a 390-member police team for election security, said polling throughout the province has been largely peaceful.
“We encountered minor incidents at some Hagen Urban polling sites this morning, but they were quickly contained by police on the ground,” Sagom said. “Overall, polling across all LLGs has been peaceful and successful. I want to thank voters for respecting the electoral process and my officers for their tireless efforts in maintaining order throughout the province.”
Sagom added that any ballot boxes under dispute are securely locked away at Kimininga Regional Police Barracks, awaiting further direction from the Electoral Commission.
With 302 out of 316 wards having completed polling, Western Highlands now has only 14 wards left to cast their votes tomorrow.
