Former Chief Executive Officer of Sinasina-Yongomugl District, Obert Waure, has accused his local MP, Kerenga Kua, of acting unprofessionally in removing him from office, saying the decision lacked due process and transparency.

However, Kerenga Kua, who is the Chairman of the District Development Authority [DDA], has stood by his actions, insisting the termination was necessary to protect the integrity of the district administration and ensure proper governance.

Mr Waure said he received a letter dated October 2nd, signed by Mr Kua, asking him to respond to several disciplinary allegations.

“I provided my written response on the same day but my subsequent termination is unprofessional and a stain on my integrity," Waure said.

He said he had served in the Papua New Guinea Public Service for over 20 years, including seven years as District Administrator, and had always upheld the values of honesty, integrity, and accountability.

In response, Kua said the former CEO’s response to the allegations was unsatisfactory, leaving him with no choice but to act in the best interest of the district.

Kua said that his decision was guided by his duty to maintain good governance and discipline within the district administration.

“I had to take that action on various disciplinary matters in the interest of the DDA and the people of Sinasina Yongomugl,” Mr Kua said.

He outlined the allegations against Mr Waure, which included: alleged conflict of interest in his role as Chairman of the SSY District; irregularities in the District Procurement Committee; concerns relating to the 2027 National General Election; failure to acquit 11 mobile phones purchased by the DDA; failure to acquit deposit funds held by Phoenix Hotel Limited for labor mobility interviews; mismanagement within the District Civil Works Unit; and failure to convene District Management Team meetings.

“I advise Mr Waure not to seek sympathy on social media but to appeal his case through the Public Service process if he is not satisfied with the decision,” Mr Kua said.
