The people of Madang Province have been told to sweat in order to get what they want.

This was the blunt message from the Provincial Member and Governor, Ramsey Pariwa, whilst addressing farmers in the Astrolabe Bay Local Level Government area last week.

"Madang Province in the next fifty years would be operating by the laws and principles of God, meaning people would need to work hard and sweat in order to get what they want," Mr Pariwa said.

He made this strong statement when presenting a K20,000 cheque to the Yuar Farmers Association in Astrolabe Bay LLG area of the Raikos District.

Hundreds of people braved the pouring afternoon showers to listen to the governor deliver his address at Yanglam Primary School.

Yuar Farmers Association is the parent agribusiness company of over three thousand smallholder farmers from five wards in the Yuar area.

“When you break the principles of God, curse and suffering would occur. In the last fifty years we’ve broke the law and principles of God that’s why curse and suffering had been following us,” Pariwa said.

Pariwa told the local farmers that they need to hold their spades and shovels and work hard and sweat in order to get what they want.

Governor Pariwa said he has decided to assist the Yuar Farmers Association because they want to focus on working on the land themselves to see development in their community.

The main objective of the Yuar Farmers Association is generally to provide oversight on current and future agri—business and SME activities, project and programs in Yuar community; to mobilize and transform smallholder farmers and communities from a subsistence way of doing business into commercialization and to manage and control lands and natural resources in Yuar community.

The chairman of Yuar Farmers Association, Donald Manzi thanked Governor Pariwa for honouring the commitment he made last year to assist them.

Manzi said the financial assistance would go towards establishing the group’s bank account in order for them to progress with their agri-business endeavors.
