Five Grade 10 students from Kundiawa Lutheran Day Secondary School have pleaded guilty to liquor-related offences at the Kundiawa District Court on Wednesday.

They are part of a group of 18 arrested last week for liquor-related offences.

Simbu’s Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang, said the court sentenced the students to six months in jail. But because they were first-time offenders and were sorry for what they did, the court suspended the sentence and placed them on a one-year good behavior bond.

The students are Sine Otto (17), Simaima Kobale (17), Andambo Waiye (18), Brian Goiye (15), and John Naur (17). Their behavior will be monitored from October 15, 2025, to October 15, 2026. They were not fined.

The other 13 students pleaded not guilty, and their case will continue on November 15, 2025. They are being kept at the Kundiawa Police Station because their parents could not pay the K1000 bail.

Superintendent Rubiang warned that police will continue to carry out similar operations in all schools and during graduation events.

He urged Grade 12 and Grade 8 students to behave well after their exams.
