An independent financial audit has begun into the Madang Provincial Government’s accounts, following a Provincial Executive Council [PEC] decision led by Governor Ramsey Pariwa.

Governor Pariwa said the audit is covering 2017 to 2024. It aims to expose any misuse of public funds and restore financial order after years without proper accountability.

“This is the first full audit in many years,” Governor Pariwa said.

“We want to know how public funds were used and start fresh with clean books. The people of Madang deserve transparency and confidence in their government.”

The PEC has engaged a private auditing firm to carry out the review.

Pariwa said all government transactions, including national grants and service delivery funds, will be examined.

He added that delays in conducting the audit since 2022 were caused by an administrative impasse, but the process will now move forward under the new Provincial Administrator.

Governor Pariwa urged all public servants, the Provincial Finance Office, and relevant agencies to fully cooperate with the auditors.

“Once the audit findings are complete, any misuse of public money will lead to investigations and arrests,” he said.

“This marks a new beginning for Madang as we move into the next 50 years with integrity and accountability.”
