ABG caretaker government sworn in

Bougainville President Ishmael Toroama has announced a caretaker executive government following a formal swearing-in ceremony in Buka on Monday.
The ceremony, presided over by Resident Judge Justice Peter Toliken, marks the beginning of the caretaker administration ahead of the formation of the new government.
The caretaker Bougainville Executive Council includes President Toroama, Vice President Ezekiel Masatt, and Member for Atolls Amanda Masono.
The caretaker government will oversee government operations until the full cabinet is formed after the swearing-in of the 5th Bougainville House of Representatives on Friday, October 10.
President Toroama said the occasion signifies an important step in Bougainville’s democratic process — a time of transition, continuity, and renewed commitment to serve the people.
He acknowledged the outcome of the election, noting that the people have made their choice through the ballot box. However, he expressed disappointment over the conduct of some losing candidates who are protesting the election and its outcome.
He said such behavior undermines Bougainville’s democratic values and disrespects the will of the people.
President Toroama has called on leaders to set aside personal differences and work together for the greater good of Bougainville, stressing the need for unity and maturity as the region moves towards its long-term political aspirations.
