Morobe police have captured five suspects in relation to the killing of two women over sorcery related claims a week ago in Lae.

The Lae Metropolitan Commander, Chief Superintendent Chris Kunyanban, confirmed that one of the five suspects is the person who took the video and narrated, as the others tortured three elderly women, and later uploaded the video on Facebook under the username "Botty Mamboka".

The video that's since been removed, showed the appalling treatment of the women, one already dead, tied onto a stick, carried in and thrown over the fire, while the other two were tied up, tortured and left sitting on the ground crying helplessly.

Disturbingly, the video showed men and youngs boys standing as bystanders, filming the attack without intervening.

"This viral video prompted the police to act swiftly and effect an arrest on the perpetrators. They were all charged with willful murder and are now being interrogated by the Lae Crime Investigations Division [CID] Homicide Squad as investigations continue," Kunyanban said.

The five suspects are now in police custody and are being held at the Lae Central Police Station Cells-Top Town.
