Two women were brutally killed, and another is in critical condition at the Angau General Hospital, after a brutal mob attack in the 'Ass mambu' area of Lae's Backroad area on Wednesday, in what police say was a sorcery-related killing.

According to police, the three women were captured and tortured by a group of community members, mostly men, in an apparent act of retaliation following a recent death in the area, believed to be caused by sorcery practiced by the three women.

In a disturbing act, the women were tied up, severely beaten, and were even thrown over a fire.

A graphic video of the incident, filmed and posted on Facebook by a user identified as "Botty Mamboka", shows bystanders including young boys watching and even recording the gruesome attack on their phones.

Lae Metropolitan Commander, Chief Superintendent Chris Kunyanban, strongly condemned this violent attack in the strongest terms and vowed that those responsible would face the full force of the law.

“This is a horrific act, and we will make sure all those involved in this barbaric killing are arrested and charged with willful murder. There is no place for such violence in Lae and PNG," Kunyanban said.

The police boss further urged the community to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and called for cooperation in identifying and handing over all the suspects involved in this incident.
