Police in Madang are all geared to assist the PNG Electoral Commission deliver a safe and successful LLG election in the province.

Provincial Police Commander, Acting Superintendent Robert Baim, says his officers are prepared to support and safeguard the delivery of the council election in the province.

"We are on standby to assist the Electoral Commission in delivering the long-awaited council elections for our people," Baim said.

Following a sequence of recent events, including the successful Usino-Bundi Gama by-election in August and the country's 50th Golden Jubilee Independence celebrations, PPC Baim said,"we remain well prepared to serve our community and nation."

Acting Superintendent Baim also issued a clear warning to anyone seeking to disrupt the elections that the police will respond firmly to any attempt to compromise the process or to influence the votes improperly.

"Looking ahead to the next 50 years, the focus must be on what lies ahead. Attitudes and values must evolve, and we must adhere to established rules and processes as we appoint leaders.

“Time to eat lampflaps and drink cola is gone. Think about how our children will live in the next 50 years, and seriously choose leaders with vision, who can guide this nation towards a better Papua New Guinea tomorrow,” said PPC Baim.

Meanwhile, voters in Madang are being urged to evaluate leaders based on merit and vision, not merely on factors such as a quick return for a short-term cheap reward.

"We aspire to see changes in mindsets, attitudes, and behaviours. Work with security forces to ensure we appoint good leaders for our future.

"The power is in the hands of the people. The past is behind us; the dawn of a new era is upon us," PPC Baim stressed.

He reiterated that police will not tolerate any misbehaviour during the polling and counting period.
