Work is set to move forward on the tender process for a new Level 4 district hospital in Bialla, Nakanai District, following clearance of land and site preparations.

Nakanai District Administrator Jeffrey Osa said the district development authority is coordinating with the West New Britain Provincial Health Authority, the National Department of Health, and the Asian Development Bank [ADB], which is funding the construction.

The Nakanai DDA Board has already spent more than K150,000 preparing the site, including over K58,000 for site clearance and K96,000 in crop compensation for residents relocated from the 10.1-hectare plot.

Osa said the land issues have now been resolved, allowing the tender process to be expedited. He also acknowledged support from Oil Palm Minister and Nakanai MP Francis Galia Maneke for helping clear outstanding matters to enable the project to progress.

The new hospital is expected to significantly improve health services for the Bialla community and surrounding areas.
