East Sepik villagers trained in legal skills to boost tourism and local development

46 Locals from Haripmo Village and neighboring wards in Yangoru-Saussia District have completed a week-long Community Legal Awareness and Peace & Justice training aimed at supporting local tourism and ward-level development.
The program, held at Wirui Mission Prayer House, brought together 15 women and 31 men and was organized by the East Yangoru LLG in partnership with the East Sepik Provincial Administration’s Tourism Unit. It focused on helping participants understand village laws and fostering peaceful, productive community change.

“This legal awareness gives them background on the laws governing their lives,” said Lucy Benguma, Director of Tourism for East Sepik Provincial Administration. “The goal is to help them shift their focus to sustainable, community-based tourism.”
Darusila Uraihi, representing Haripmo’s women’s group, praised the training. “What we have learned is very valuable,” she said. “I will go back and share this knowledge with my group.”
Certificates of completion were presented during the closing ceremony by Deputy Provincial Administrator for LLG Affairs Godfried Raushem and Deputy Provincial Administrator for Corporate Services Lineth Sari, who thanked Governor Allan Bird and the provincial team for initiating the program.
