Governor Wenge’s wisdom and leadership will be missed, says MP Marsh Narewec

The Member for Wau-Waria, Marsh Narewec, has extended his heartfelt condolences to the family and Morobe province on the passing of the late Morobe Governor Luther Akisawa Wenge.
“We the Morobe leaders were all looking forward to hearing what he would say in his Independence message, a message to move ahead as a province and a country after 50 years. Sadly, he left us before he could share that vision,” Narewec said.
The MP had been in Garaina, where he had been on the ground physically to oversee critical roadworks for the Morobe-Northern Highway pilot track.
It was during this two weeks field visit that he received the devastating news of Governor Wenge’s passing and reflected on the late Governor's legacy and deep connection to the region.
“He walked from Wau to Garaina and back during his campaign days. He knew the name of every village in between. My plan was to bring both the late Governor and the Prime Minister to Garaina, to declare the presence of government at Garaina Station. It truly broke my heart to learn that he had passed on just as the road reached Garaina.”
Governor Wenge, who served Morobe and the country for more than 15 years, was praised for his fearless representation in Parliament and his ability to speak with clarity and passion on matters of provincial and national importance.

“Someone we looked up to for wisdom, understanding, and inspiration has fallen. I personally feel a deep sense of loss that it had to happen this way,” said Narewec.
The MP also shared how Governor Wenge had directly supported the Wau Waria District’s development efforts, including the K2.5 million funding for the Nemnem Highway project that's well underway.
“I had so many plans to bring him to Wau Waria to witness the rebuilding and construction we’ve started. His support gave us the foundation to get off the ground. Now, I will ensure that the road reaches Tekadu in his name.”
In an emotional tribute, Narewec acknowledged that the people from Garaina, Biaru, Waria, Ono, Biangai, Kaindi, the Mumengs and Buangs of Misisbooth, Koviak, Nemnem and Bitoi, the communities that late Governor Wenge has walked all share the loss of his passing at this time.
