Labour and Employment Minister and Rai Coast MP, Kessy Sawang, has described the late Morobe Governor Luther Wenge as one of Papua New Guinea’s most fearless and principled leaders, whose passing is a great loss to the nation.

Sawang said Wenge stood out as both a legal mind and a politician, making significant contributions to the creation, interpretation, and application of the country’s laws.“

He was one of the few leaders in our nation’s history who made profound contributions not only to the creation of our laws but also to their interpretation and application,” she said.

Wenge, a trained lawyer and former Acting Judge of the National Court, was remembered for his unwavering commitment to justice, democracy, and the rule of law.

Sawang said his oratory and conviction in Parliament made him a commanding figure, while his three terms as Governor of Morobe reflected his dedication to serving the people of Papua New Guinea’s largest province.

“His passing, so close to our 50th Independence anniversary, is a great loss not only to Morobe but to Papua New Guinea as a whole,” Sawang said, extending condolences to his family, loved ones, and the people of Morobe Province.

The late Governor Luther Wenge leaves behind a legacy of courage, integrity, and service that will inspire future generations.
