Bulolo MP refutes social media claims about dress code during CS Buimo visit

Bulolo MP Sam Basil Junior has dismissed social media criticisms surrounding his attire during a recent visit to the Correctional Services [CS] Buimo facility, stating that he was unaware an official parade was scheduled at the time.
The controversy arose following online posts claiming the MP breached protocol by not adhering to a formal dress code during what appeared to be an official CS event.
However, MP Basil clarified that his visit was purely a constituency service engagement, conducted over the weekend, and not intended to coincide with any official parade or ceremonial function.
“I paid the visit during the weekend without any awareness of an official parade to eventuate,” Basil told NBC News.
“I went there to be with my people, even those behind bars because they, too, deserve to feel the presence of their leader during the country’s special time.”

During the visit, Basil and his team delivered rations and a cow for the inmates to celebrate the nation's 50th Independence Anniversary. The MP also conducted one-on-one interactions with inmates to hear their concerns and welfare needs.
He further announced plans to send additional medical supplies and relief support to CS Buimo and reaffirmed his commitment to improving law and justice infrastructure in the district including a proposed police station for Mumeng, which remains on hold due to funding constraints.
“Critics can say what they want, but I know why I was there. My duty is to serve all my people both inside and outside with dignity,” Basil added.
His visit was part of the Independence celebrations last week, where the 4th Bulolo who was also conducted to mark the Golden Jubilee.
