As Milne Bay Province celebrated Papua New Guinea's 50th Independence, the Provincial Works Supervision Unit (WSU) shone a spotlight on the backbone of its success: staff members who have dedicated 15 years or more to infrastructure development.

Marking its 30th anniversary since establishment in 1995, the WSU took this momentous occasion to honor 11 long-serving employees who have quietly but powerfully shaped the province’s growth.

“Long service isn’t just about time it’s about commitment, resilience, and building a future,” said WSU Manager Austin Polin. “In line with the national theme ‘Celebrate our History and Inspire our Future,’ we recognize these individuals as the foundation upon which Milne Bay’s progress is built.”

The ceremony brought together not only current leaders but also former managers, symbolizing a shared legacy and passing of the torch. Former Manager Ashan Numa reminded attendees, “While critics highlight shortcomings, the milestones we’ve reached prove our strength and potential. The journey continues, fueled by the dedication of staff like these.”

Another former manager, Hau’ofa Saliasa, challenged the younger generation to uphold this legacy: “We have done our part; now the future rests in your hands.”

To inspire future generations, a history wall was unveiled, showcasing the unit’s contributions and serving as a visual reminder of the power of long-term dedication to nation-building.

The Milne Bay WSU is not just celebrating the past but it’s laying a strong foundation for the future through recognizing their long-serving staff.
