Wenge passes on

The people of Morobe have lost a vocal son and Governor Luther Akisawa Wenge this morning.

Prime Minister James Marape in a statement says that Mr. Wenge passed away in Port Moresby after undergoing an urgent surgery, to stop an internal bleeding.

Mr. Marape says that despite the tireless efforts of our best medical professionals, and with arrangements being made for further treatment, complications arose due to underlying diabetic conditions, which led to his demise.

He says that doctors confirmed that he did not recover around 4 AM this morning, and his family was called in to give their consent for the removal of the life support.

Mr. Marape also thanked the doctors and medical staff who did everything humanly possible to try to save the Governor, and the Leader of Government Business for coordinating emergency care at this time.

He also took time on behalf of the Government and the people of Papua New Guinea, to extend their deepest condolences to his family, the people of Morobe, and all who are currently mourning his passing.
