Operation Golden Jubilee launched in Madang

Madang police have launched ‘Operation Golden Jubilee’- a special independence operation that will run for the next ten days.
The Operation was launched by the Provincial Police Commander, Acting Superintendent Robert Baim at the Madang Town Police Station and was witnessed by members of the general public.
The operation aims to deliver a safe and peaceful 50th Golden Jubilee Independence celebration to the people of Madang Province.
Operation Golden Jubilee will cover both land and sea with special emphasis on making sure that the four- days independence celebrations are trouble- free.
PPC Baim said Madang police have been well-organised even before the actual event, and he is confident they will deliver a successful 50th independence celebration for the province.
“There will be no engagement of outside forces due to funding constraints, however; we have the support of the Community Policing Units and the private security companies being engaged by the Provincial Events Committee to help provide security within and around the parameters of the showground at Laiwaden,” PPC Baim said.
For police in the rural districts, Mr Baim has met with their district administrators and the rural commander to discuss the best possible ways they can assist police operations in the districts during the festive period.
The PPC has also extended his appreciation to the Madang Governor, Ramsey Pariwa, Acting Provincial Administrator, Daniel Aloi and the National Events Council for their support towards the police operation in the province.
Acting Superintendent Baim has also issued a stern warning to the general public to be of good conduct during this time as police will not tolerate any form of nonsense.
Meanwhile, policemen and women immediately put on a ‘show of strength’ after the launching parade.
About 20 police vehicles loaded with policemen and women paraded through town then up the south coast to the Four Mile market and down the north coast to RD Tuna Cannery, then back to the Airport area before returning to the Town Police Station.
