Marape arrives in Honiara for 54th PIF

Prime Minister James Marape arrived in Honiara this afternoon for the 54th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting.
Mr Marape joins 16 other Pacific leaders for the week-long meeting hosted by Solomon Islands under the theme “Iumi Tugeda: Act Now for an Integrated Blue Pacific.”
Leaders are expected to discuss pressing regional issues, including climate change, security, fisheries, and development challenges facing smaller island states.
For Papua New Guinea, the Forum comes at a special time as the country prepares to celebrate its 50th Independence Jubilee next Tuesday.
The official opening ceremony takes place this evening in Honiara, followed by meetings and leaders’ retreat later this week.
