Youth killed, another injured in Mekeo supermarket hold-up

A youth from Inawi in the Mekeo Local Level Government Area, Kairuku District, Central Province, has died, and another sustained severe injuries following an armed hold-up at a Chinese-run supermarket in the area on Saturday night, 6 September 2025.

An employee at the store is also reported to have been wounded during the incident.

Bereina Police have confirmed the occurrence but are yet to release further details.

Authorities are urging communities in the Mekeo area to remain calm and allow the law to take its course as investigations continue.
