PWBL grand finals set to ignite Taurama arena

From under-8 rookies to U18 rivals, Port Moresby’s top youth basketball teams battle for glory in a celebration of skill, spirit, and community
The countdown is on for the Port Moresby Women’s Basketball League [PWBL] grand finals, set to electrify the Taurama Aquatic and Indoor Centre this Sunday.
From the league’s youngest talents to the city’s emerging youth leaders, teams across all age groups have battled hard to earn their place in the ultimate showdown.
The finals festival kicks off with a curtain-raiser match between the Tamaraws and Central 3x3 in the mixed Under-8 division. The youngest ballers will set the tone with energy, enthusiasm, and plenty of smiles, giving fans a glimpse of the stars of tomorrow.
Following this, grand final fixtures begin in the mixed U10 division as Central 3x3 faces KSS Flames. A tightly contested U12 girls’ match between Saints and KSS Flames is also expected to keep fans on the edge of their seats, showcasing disciplined and balanced team play.
A gritty clash is anticipated between the Saints and Exodus in the U14 girls’ division, while the U14 boys’ title battle between the Flames and Saints promises a game defined by strategy, skill, and physicality.

In the U16 girls’ trophy match, flair meets structure as the Tamaraws take on Central 3x3. Central 3x3 will then aim for a clean sweep when they face Flames in the U16 boys’ final, a projected showcase of polished talent, leadership, and pace.
The day culminates in the U18 boys’ grand final, where traditional rivals Flames and Tamaraws will face off in a fitting finale for the ultimate title.
Organisers say the finals are about more than competition as they celebrate youth development and community spirit through sport. The Kumul Consolidated Holdings Limited (KCHL)-backed POM WBL Kids Competition continues to provide a platform for young players to showcase their skills, promote equality, and highlight the transformative power of basketball.
PWBL paid tribute to its major sponsor, KCHL, whose unwavering support over the past four years has been vital to the competition’s growth.
“KCHL’s support has allowed countless young ballers to chase their dreams and shine on the courts,” organisers said.
Families, schools, and basketball fans across the capital are invited to witness what promises to be an unforgettable day of passion, pride, and the stars of the future in action.
