The Goroka District Development Authority [DDA] has stepped in with K150,000 to support the 69th Goroka Show, reinforcing the event’s role as a major economic and cultural highlight for the district and province.

The cheque was handed over by Goroka District Administrator Benzon Imara to Goroka Show Chair Lady Keryn Hagraves at the district office last Thursday.

Goroka MP Aiye Tambua said the DDA’s backing is vital, as the show not only carries the district’s name but also generates significant revenue for local businesses. He added that the funding comes from the District Services Improvement Programme [DSIP].

“This support comes at a pivotal time as we also plan our 50th district anniversary celebrations,” Mr Tambua said, adding that games and activities will be held in schools across the district to engage local communities.

Goroka Show chairlady Keyn Hagraves welcomed the support, highlighting the Show’s longevity and growing international profile.

“The Goroka Show is 69 years old, older than our country’s independence. International tourists are now booking years in advance, with confirmed visits for 2025, 2026, and 2027,” she said.
