Wapenamanda Airport temporarily closed

Wapenamanda Airport in Enga Province is temporarily closed, effective yesterday.
This follows escalating civil unrest within the vicinity of the airport, involving the use of firearms and other offensive weapons.
The National Airports Corporation [NAC] in a statement outlined that in light of these developments, proactive steps have been taken to safeguard passengers, airport staff, and aircraft operations.
A Notice to Airmen or NOTAM has also been issued, confirming the closure of the Airport.
However, NAC has stakeholders and the public that the situation remains under close monitoring, and operations will resume once normalcy is restored.
Meanwhile, in a gathering at Unagi Oval in Port Moresby yesterday, elite of Enga including students have called on the leaders of the province to address this issue immediately.
They are concerned that tribal fighting district is at the gateway to Enga province and if the fight continues and expand it will definitely affect other districts in province, causing unnecessary problems for travelling public.
