Deputy Commissioner of Police Specialist Operations Donald Yamasombi has warned the public to be cautious of scammers posing as police officers and demanding money to withdraw cases under investigation.

He issued the warning after a man reported receiving a call from someone claiming to be DCP Yamasombi.

The caller allegedly told the victim he had enough evidence to convict him and demanded money in exchange for removing his file.

Yamasombi stressed that no one can withdraw cases under investigation unless through a court order or if the victim and suspect reach an agreement.

He has instructed police officers to trace the scammer’s phone number and ensure the suspect is arrested and charged.
