Kapmawal slams school arson, praises police for swift arrests

The Chairman of Education for the East Sepik Provincial Assembly and President of East Yangoru LLG, Jackson Kapmawal, has condemned recent arson attacks on schools in the province.
He voiced outrage after students allegedly burned a boys’ dormitory at Brandi Secondary School in Wewak, calling the act a betrayal of the school’s proud legacy.
“Brandi Secondary School has produced many of our region’s elites and leaders. The destruction of its property is unacceptable and disgraceful,” Kapmawal said.

He praised the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary for quickly arresting six suspects linked to the incident.
Kapmawal also revealed that just a week earlier, arsonists destroyed a newly built 4-in-1 classroom at Eastern Primary School in Yangoru.
“These actions are animalistic and must be condemned by all,” he said, urging communities to help police identify and hand over those responsible.
He stressed that such attacks undermine the future of East Sepik’s youth and vowed to strengthen school governance and community involvement to protect learning spaces.
