New MP’s declared for Aitape-Lumi and Porgera-Paiela

Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae officially received the Writs for the Aitape-Lumi and Porgera-Paiela electorates on Wednesday, marking the formal conclusion of the two recent by-elections.

Electoral Commissioner Simon Sinai presented the Writs to the Head of State, signifying the successful completion of the 2 by-elections.

Anderson Mise of the United Resources Party retained his seat in Aitape-Lumi after securing over 19,000 votes. In Porgera-Paiela, Gidron Maso Karipe was declared the MP-elect with 19,223 votes. He takes over the seat previously held by his late father, Maso Karipe.

Commissioner Sinai, speaking to the media during the handover, said he was satisfied with the conduct of the by-elections and congratulated both winning candidates. He also commended electoral staff and voters for their cooperation, which contributed to a smooth and orderly process.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister James Marape released a statement welcoming the two MPs to Parliament.
