Madang PHA announces new chief executive officer

The Madang Provincial Health Authority [PHA] has announced the appointment of Dr Martin Daimen as its new Chief Executive Officer, following a merit-based selection process.

Dr Daimen, a veteran medical officer at the Madang Provincial Hospital, was officially confirmed in the position after the appointment was published in the National Gazette No. G761 earlier this week.

Chairman of the Madang PHA Board, Dr Boga Figa, announced the appointment yesterday in a circular to staff, stating that the selection was carried out in collaboration with the Department of Personnel Management’s Executive Search and Appointments section and its Human Resource Division.“

The process was rigorous and conscientious, ensuring the most qualified candidate was selected to lead the authority,” Dr Figa said.

Dr Daimen's appointment is effective immediately, with the official handover ceremony scheduled for today, August 28, 2025.

The PHA Board extended its congratulations to Dr Daimen and expressed its full support for his leadership over the next four years.

Meanwhile, Dr Figa acknowledged the contribution of Dr Sammy Thomas, who had served as acting CEO for the past thirteen months.He commended Dr Thomas for his stabilising leadership during the tumultuous period in the organisation.

Dr Figa also thanked all PHA staff for their patience and support throughout the recruitment process, which he said allowed the board to bring the appointment to a successful conclusion.
