Cybercrime still a serious threat

Acting Minister for Information, Communications and Technology Peter Tsiamalili Jnr says a major challenge in the ICT space is cyber crime or cyber security.
Minister Tsiamalili says this is critical in this age and era where the use of technology is at the finger tips.
"We have a huge challenge before us, and more work needs to be done by relevant state agencies," Tsiamalili said.
The Acting ICT Minister says Parliament needs to pass law to allow Papua New Guinea to be part of a treaty to source technical support to help Papua New Guinea manage the space of cybercrime or cyber security.
Minister Tsiamalili told NBC Online, he will bring a submission paper to cabinet to define the policy, its regulation and its enforcement.
He says the Pacific ICT Minister's Dialogue will also focus on addressing the growing threat of cyber crime and cyber security.
"Fiji is leading in this space and Papua New Guinea must move in the same direction. Attending this meeting in Suva is important for Papua New Guinea," Tsiamalili said.
Adding on, the acting ICT Minister reiterated the opportunity for social media influencers in Papua New Guinea.
He says the Marape-Rosso Government remains committed to ensuring there are proper pathways for citizens to make money.
Tsiamalili also wants to see responsible publicity within ICT laws.
"We have more and more social media influencers riding in this space. The best we could do is for the Government to establish a more safe and secure solution to both influencers and social users,"he said.
