WHPG purchases Street Sweeper truck to clean city streets

The Western Highlands Provincial Government has purchased a new Street Sweeper truck to help clean and maintain the streets of Mt Hagen and surrounding urban areas.
The specialised vehicle is designed to brush off dirt, stains, and rubbish from roads and footpath, improving cleanliness and public hygiene in the city.
"The betel nut stains especially on the four lane road, foot path as well as the drainage in the city is an eye sore and so I have bought this Street Sweeper truck to clean and brush this stains and others and at the same time educating the people to be responsible citizens and have respect for public properties," said Rapa.
Governor Rapa added this is also part of the Provincial Government's program in preparation for the 2025 Mt Hagen Cultural Show and the 50th Independence Golden Jubilee celebrations.
He also said the investment reflects the government's commitment to a cleaner, healthier and more attractive environment for residents and visitors alike.
"We want Hagen City to shine during the Jubilee and beyond and clean streets are a sign of pride and progress," Governor Rapa said.
Meantime, the truck will be operated by the Provincial Government Engineering Division and will work alongside local waste management team.
Rapa commit K300,000 to provincial police for upcoming national and cultural events

Western Highlands Governor Wai Rapa has committed K300,000 to the police in Western Highlands Province to support security operations for the upcoming Mt Hagen Cultural Show and Papua New Guinea's 50th Independence Golden Jubilee celebrations.
Governor Rapa announced the funding support during a brief ceremony in Mt Hagen recently, stating that the money will assist the police with logistics, manpower and crowd control during the two major events that are expected to draw large crowds from across the province as well as abroad.
Governor Rapa said the funding demonstrate the Provincial government's commitment in ensuring both events are celebrated in a safe and rederly manner.
"These events are of great cultural and national significance. It's important that our people and guests enjoy them in a peaceful environment," he said.
Western Highlands Provincial Police Commander Chief Superintendent John Sagom thanked Governor Rapa for the timely support, adding that the funds would greatly enhance police preparedness and visibility during the festivities.
