The Papua New Guinea Men’s National Cricket Team, the Barramundis, concluded a high-intensity two-day trial match from July 15 to July 16, 2025, at Amini Park.

This internal trial was a critical step in finalising the squad to represent PNG in the upcoming International tour for the Barramundis for the Jersey Tour – ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Challenge A League (50-Overs, ODI) from August 19 – August 31, 2025.

The two-day match featured the national Train-On Squad of 25 players, blending the experience of seasoned Barramandis' players with the energy of young and emerging talents.

In the 25 train-on-squad, the squad will be trimmed down to 20 contracted players for the Barramundis, and the remaining five will be part of the development squad. 2 months of active training, led to the two days trial match will see out of the 20 contracted players only 14 players will be selected for the Jersey Tour.

National Assistant Coach John Ovia expressed confidence in the team’s ongoing preparations.
"The preparation of the Barramundis towards our 50-over campaign has been very good,” said Ovia.

"Our preparation towards the ODI in Jersey has been boosted by these two high-quality coaches. They’ve been helping the boys in every way possible.”

“The seniors and the young ones are working together very well. Their input has been very helpful."
The final Barramundis squad for these international tours will be announced soon following this intensive assessment phase.
