The PNG Hunters have confirmed that centre Elijah Roltinga will miss the remainder of the 2025 season after suffering a broken leg in a freak accident during pre-match warm-ups.

The incident occurred ahead of the Hunters’ Round 16 clash against the Mendi Blackhawks. Roltinga sustained the injury just moments before kick-off and was promptly medivacked to Pacific International Hospital [PIH] for urgent medical attention.

The club reported that Roltinga underwent surgery the following morning and that the operation was successful. He remains in recovery and is expected to begin a structured rehabilitation program in the coming weeks.

“Elijah is a valued member of our squad, and his presence will be missed both on and off the field,” the club said in a statement.

“He will receive the highest standard of medical care available in Papua New Guinea to support his return.”

Roltinga’s absence is a significant blow for the Hunters as they push toward the finals. The team has pledged to provide ongoing support and updates on his condition.

“Our thoughts are with Elijah and his family during this challenging time. We wish him a full and speedy recovery,” the club added.
