Cricket PNG names Lewas train-on squad ahead of international campaigns

Cricket PNG has announced the PNG Lewas National Team train-on squad for 2025, following a rigorous selection process aimed at preparing the team for a busy international calendar.
The 25-player squad includes both seasoned campaigners and emerging talents, as the Lewas prepare to build on their growing reputation in women’s international cricket.
Cricket PNG’s National Coach, Tim Nielsen, welcomed the announcement as a key milestone in the team's development.
"The selection of the Lewa’s squad is an important moment in the squads progress and we are are excited to welcome the group together," Nielsen said.
"Graduating to One Day International cricket is a huge achievement and we are excited about the challenges that lie ahead. The individuals have earnt their positions, and the team is preparing well for upcoming challenges."
The PNG Lewas hold One Day International [ODI] status, granted by the International Cricket Council [ICC], which allows them to compete in sanctioned global matches.
This recognition is a testament to the team’s consistent progress and the rising profile of women’s cricket in Papua New Guinea.
In another boost, the Lewas are among the nominees for the 2025 SP Sports Awards, nominated for their outstanding performances and contributions to the sport over the past year.
Cricket PNG congratulated all selected players and expressed confidence in an exciting season ahead, as the Lewas continue to make history both on and off the field.
