The Fiji National Women’s Football Team arrived in Port Moresby yesterday afternoon ahead of their upcoming international friendly matches against Papua New Guinea at the National Football Stadium.

The matches are part of Fiji’s build-up to the OFC Women’s Nations Cup, scheduled to be held from July 4 to 19 in Fiji.

Speaking on arrival at Jacksons International Airport, head coach Angeline Chua expressed her enthusiasm for the opportunity to test her squad against a strong regional opponent.

“We’re excited to be here,” said Chua. “It’s not easy to secure quality friendlies in the Oceania region, so we’re eager to make the most of this chance. Playing against PNG will help us develop our ability to handle high-pressure situations.”

Chua added that the team began preparations 10 days ago, with players selected from some of Fiji’s top football clubs.

Entering the match as underdogs, the Fijian side sees the fixtures as vital to fine-tuning their tactics and building cohesion ahead of their Nations Cup campaign.

The first friendly match between Fiji and PNG is set for Friday, May 30, with a second game scheduled for Monday, June 2.

Meanwhile, the PNG women’s team is also in full preparation mode, aiming to make the most of the international hit-out as both teams eye success in the upcoming regional tournament.
