Madang police investigating assault of mother and daughter

Police in Madang have launched an investigation into the alleged assault of a mother and her 13-year-old daughter by security guards at a local shop, following accusations of shoplifting.
The incident occurred on Saturday and has since gone viral on social media, sparking public outrage and calls for immediate police action against those involved.
Provincial Police Commander, Acting Superintendent Robert Baim, confirmed the investigation is underway but did not disclose the name of the shop involved. He assured the public that police are treating the matter seriously.
“The woman, identified as Josephine Kadignam, 45, from Mugil Village on Madang’s north coast, was detained at Jomba Police Station since Saturday but was released this morning,” Baim said.
He added, “As I speak, she is with our investigators giving her statement. Her daughter is currently in the village, and officers have been sent to bring her in as well.”
According to Baim, police were notified of the incident on Sunday and began taking steps immediately.
“We intended to start the investigation yesterday, but the shop had already closed by the time we received the information. However, we are fully engaged now and can assure the public that we will not rest until this matter is resolved,” he said.
Further details of the incident are expected to be released later today as the investigation progresses.
