Ambunti-Drekikir launches credit scheme and five-year DDA plan

A significant step towards economic empowerment took place yesterday in the Ambunti-Drekikir District with the launch of its new Credit Scheme in partnership with the National Development Bank [NDB].
The initiative, spearheaded by local MP Johnson Wapunai, was unveiled alongside the District Development Plan 2023-2027, which was attended by locals at the Ambunti Station.
Economic investment is the number one priority in the DDA plan as this is seen to boost the local economy.
Mr Wapunai said the credit scheme program is very timely and will greatly benefit the people.
He said Ambunti District Administration [DDA] has deposited K1 million into NDB to provide crucial financial support to local Small and Medium-sized Enterprises [SMEs] within the district.
Addressing a crowd of over 500 people, including men, women, and children from Ambunti and Drekikir, MP Wapunai emphasized that the credit scheme is now operational.
He encouraged local entrepreneurs to approach the National Development Bank branch in Maprik to access loan facilities.
"Priority will be given to the people in our villages," Wapunai said.
