The Consultative Implementation and Monitoring Council [CIMC] is collaborating with civil society organisations and key government agencies to find alternate solutions for the ongoing governance issues within the government ranks.
The Governance & Service Delivery Sectoral Committee chaired by Wau-Waria MP Marsh Narawec is focused on identifying better ways to improve governance and provide effective service to the people.
A meeting was held on Thursday with stakeholders from the government and private sector to discuss and share information in the governance space.
“I think it's important for us and for different government departments, civil society, private sector, NGOs, to come together and have some dialogue on policy matters within the governance space, especially in Papua New Guinea,” senior project officer of governance and service delivery sector, Dr. Francis Wargirai told NBC News.
“This [meeting] was a really good opportunity to learn, especially from key government agencies within the governance space like the Independent Commission Against Corruption [ICAC], Department of Provincial and Local Level Affairs [DPLGA] and National Economic and Fiscal Commission NEFC], on some of the work that they're doing.
“And also, for CIMC to share some of the work that we're doing so we can see where everyone's at and see how we can potentially work together, coordinate our work, to actually move the agenda on development and also help the government.”
Dr. Wargirai said the main focus was on decentralization and how to bring information and service down to the wards and districts.
He said it was proper to establish policy at the national level to set the basis of service delivery and how it trickles down to districts and provinces is equally important.
The CIMC senior project officer urged government departments, stakeholders and private sector including international NGOs and civil societies to work in parallel to drive the agenda of governance and service delivery.
“We can be able to work together in bringing these plans and these policies from the national right down to the districts and into the wards,” he said.
