Opposition Leader Douglas Tomuriesa has described allegations by Prime Minister James Marape as a "crazy conspiracy theory".

With the curtain falling on the alternate government motion to move a vote-of-no-confidence against the prime minister and next Parliament sitting in September, statements from two largest universities in the country is causing noise at Waigani.

Mr Tomuriesa said "the assertion that the Opposition or out agents, whatever that means, are trying to incite protests among universities is completely false and amounts to a crazy theory."

The Opposition Leader's comments followed Prime Minister Marape's allegations that some Opposition Members of Parliament are inciting student protests against his government.

"Our intelligence is that certain Opposition MPs have sent their agents to colleges and universities to stir up students to cause strife, and infiltrating students leadership to run their political agenda," Prime Minister Marape said.

In separate statements released by the Student Representative Councils [SRC] from the University of Papua New Guinea and University of Technology, they say staging a public protest on issues affecting Papua New Guineans will be the last resort.

Open dialogue by all stakeholders to find a more constructive solution on issues affecting Papua New Guineans on campus is the proposal agreed by the universities SRCs.
